| Who Do We Serve? |
| The Fletcher Academy serves students who need an highly structured, very individualized context in which to learn. We provide students with opportunities to discover the strengths of their own minds and to develop learning styles consistent with those strengths. We help students in grades 1-12 to master basic academic and social skills while instilling in them a positive sense of their own responsibility for learning. |

| What Do We Do? |
| The Fletcher Academy designs each student's program individually, utilizing structured, predicatable teaching methods which allow for immediate feedback and an accurate measurement of progress. |

| Models of Instruction |
| Reading- The Fletcher Academy offeres a structured, phonics-based reading program that develops skills in word recognition, vocabulary, comprehension and literary generes. |

| Written Language- The areas of Written Expression include: handwriting, spelling, grammar and a variety of written expressions. Every aspect is structured in small steps so each student can mangage the task at his/her level. |

| Math Instruction- All math programs start with Directive Teaching, the practice of sample items with a model in front of the student, then independent monitored practice. Feedback is immediate and the principles are reviewed prior to the end of the lesson. All English and Math classes are taught in a one to five student ratio. |

Content Area Courses- The curriculum meets the specified North Carolina program for attaining a high school diploma. Content area courses include:
- Social Studies
- Science
- Computers and Technology
- Physical Education and Health
- Art and Humanities
- Foreigh Language

| Social Skills and Behavioral Responsibility |
| Organizational skills, social skills and handling responsibility are by-products of our diagnostic teaching and models of instruction. Students integrate these areas of responsibilities into their daily lives via teacher modeling, direct discussion and behavioral contracting. |

| One of the distinctive features of The Fletcher Academy and a mark of our success is our ability to communicate effectively with parents and support students in transition to a less restrictive enviornment. |
